Curio is an interior design magazine that encourages exploration of style within your means and appreciates creative DIYs.
Mission Statement:
Curiosity is the art of creativity. Curio aims to give you the opportunity to creatively reimagine your interior spaces with affordability and preservation in mind. Personal style is timeless, and we hope to inspire you to develop your personal design style.
Target Audience
This experience appeals to people with a strong interest in interior decor and DIY projects.
Age Range: Gen Z and Millennials
Income: $45,000-80,000 annually

1. Moodboard
The first part of the design process included developing the concept, name, and putting together a moldboard. I wanted the aesthetic of the magazine to echo the mission of Curio; creativity within your means, and a few words to describe that include:
• curious
• curated
• creative
• inspiring
• trendy
2. Research + sketching
After finalizing the concept of Curio, I began researching for articles to layout. The articles I found would fit the theme and appeal to the target audience of Curio. As part of the assignment, I chose four different articles: two short form articles and two feature articles (one image-based and one type-based).
I envisioned that from issue to issue, the short form articles would consist of one simple DIY article and a Top 5 Picks article. For this issue, the image-based feature article is a studio visit with a stained glass artist, while the type-based feature article is an interview with a popular DIY TikTok creator.
Before laying out the articles, I explored a variety of layouts in my sketchbook.

3. Define brand identity
The visual identity of Curio needed to be consistent with the concept of the brand. The simple masthead is paired with three typefaces from the Ivy Foundry. I was striving for a colorful, yet not overpowering color palette as to compliment the range of colorful articles Curio is sure to contain.
